The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (often shortened as the Bucs) are a professional American football team based in Tampa, Florida. They are currently members of the Southern Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL).
The team, along with the Seattle Seahawks, joined the NFL as 1976 expansion teams. The club is currently owned by Malcolm Glazer and coached by head coach Jon Gruden. When the franchise entered the league in 1976, the Buccaneers lost their first 26 games. After a brief winning era in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the team suffered through fourteen consecutive losing seasons. From 1996 until 2005 they were consistent playoff contenders, and won Super Bowl XXXVII at the end of the 2002 season which, to this date, has been their only Super Bowl appearance. When the Buccaneers took the field at Raymond James Stadium in 1998, Tampa Bay’s football fans enjoyed watching the game in a modern stadium soon to be recognized as one of the best facilities in the NFL. The facility, home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, University of South Florida Bulls and the New Year’s Day Outback Bowl, incorporates groundbreaking innovations and modern stadium design concepts for the finest guest experience. Located an arms throw from the original Tampa Stadium, the newly opened venue quickly became a popular choice for concerts and special events. Members of the NFL Players Association have consistently rated Raymond James Stadium’s field as the best in the league and league insiders refer to the stadium as the “crown jewel” of the NFL. Raymond James Stadium hosted Super Bowl XXXV on January 28, 2001, in which the Baltimore Ravens defeated the New York Giants 34 to 7, and will host Super Bowl XLIII on February 1, 2009.
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays are a professional baseball team based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Devil Rays are a member of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From 1998 to the present, the Devil Rays have played in Tropicana Field.

An expansion franchise, the club was founded in St. Petersburg in 1998. They are one of five teams to have never played in a World Series, the others being the Texas Rangers, the Washington Nationals, the Seattle Mariners, and the Colorado Rockies. They are the only team to have never made it to the playoffs, having finished in last place in almost every season of their existence, with the exception of 2004, when they finished fourth.
